Collection of Donor's Information

When a donation is made to the JSB, we collect the donor’s name, address, and credit card or bank information for the purpose of processing the donation and issuing a receipt. As a form of appreciation, and to impress upon others the ongoing importance for support, the JSB may publicly recognize the donor’s name, unless the donor indicates their preference not to be recognized in any way. The donor’s name may be published in association with the donor’s category range as designed by the JSB.

Donations may also be made in honour or in memory of someone, or to sponsor a participant in one of our activities. The JSB collects personal information about the recipient of the donation, or the family of the recipient or when donation is made in the memory of someone, such as their name, addresses and contact information. We collect this personal information in order to notify the recipient of the donation if that person is living. We do not use or disclose the recipient’s personal information for any other purpose unless we receive permission to do so. The donor has the option to decide whether they would like to be identified as the sender of the donation. We do not publish the amount of any donation made in honour or in memory. As the sponsor of a participant in one of our activities, the donor has the option to decide whether or not the amount of the donation may be publicly available.

Refund Policy

We offer a full money-back guarantee for all donations made on our website. If you are not satisfied with the programmes and services that you have donated to, you can get your money back no questions asked.

You are eligible for a full reimbursement within ten (10) working days of your donation. After the ten (10) day period and if no resolution has been found, you may submit an email via the "Contact Us" page outlining the reason/s for refund. Each case will be attended to accordingly.

We encourage our donors to review our programmes and services before donating.. AI Chat Assistant ("James")

Our website offers an AI chat assistant called James, who answers questions about the Jamaica Society for the Blind.  When you chat with James we record the questions you ask and the answers he gives, together with the date and time and a randomly generated conversation reference. Whatever you type is recorded, so please share only what you are content for us to keep.  If you ask James about an appointment, he will ask for your name, telephone number and email address so that our staff can contact you. These details are recorded with the conversation and passed to our staff so that your request can be acted on.  We do not record your Internet Protocol address. It is converted into a one way code that cannot be turned back into an address, and is used only to prevent misuse of the service.  

We keep these records for 90 days and then delete them automatically. We use them to improve the answers James gives and to act on appointment requests.  James is an automated assistant and not a member of clinical staff. Please do not share medical details, and do not rely on James for medical advice. If you have a concern about your sight, contact our eye clinic or your doctor.  Members of staff who are authorised to do so may read these records in order to improve the service. Each time a record is opened we log who opened it and when.  If you would like a conversation deleted, or a copy of what we hold about you, contact us at info@jamaicasocietyfortheblind.com. If you gave your details when asking about an appointment we can find your conversation by name. Otherwise please tell us the approximate date and time.
