Through education, research and advocacy, JSB is seeking to change the way employers see job seekers who are blind or visually impaired
WHO 2020 Initiative
In keeping with the World Health Organization’s Vision 2020 initiative to reduce avoidable blindness by the year 2020, the JSB partners with primary health care professionals to deliver vision screening various individual that may need this service.
A very important initiative taken by the JSB to assist in sight preservation was the establishment of the JSB Vision Centre at its headquarters at 111/2 Old Hope Road in Kingston in 2016. The Centre focuses on identifying and treating eye conditions, so as to help clients preserve their sight. These services are offered at minimal cost to clients.

Blindness Prevention
Through an active public education programme, the organization disseminates information on blindness, its causes, treatment, and how it can be prevented. This is done mainly through specialized publications, speaking engagements, seminars/workshops and the mass media. With increased access to technology, the JSB also uses the internet as a channel for educating the public about blindness and its prevention.
Additionally, the JSB’s eye health programme is aimed at assisting individuals to recognize vision problems and to take the necessary steps to have such problems remedied, where possible.
Adjustment to Blindness
Through its Adjustment to Blindness Programme, the JSB provides services to persons who are blind and visually impaired to help them lead rewarding and productive lives.
Under this programme trained officers provide services to JSB
clients in their homes, workplaces, and in their communities. Our goal is to help our members become more self-reliant and develop the life skills they need to function normally in the society.
